The Bent Trail Experience
Who
Students ages 6 to 18 are welcome to our one room schoolhouse, trickle down style, student-led learning environment. Most students are between 10 and 17 but younger siblings are encouraged!
What
A supportive program for homeschool families and those looking for a confidence building alternative for their children. The curriculum includes career and business exploration, health and food advocacy, agriculture, animal and equine sciences, pet care, imagination development, public speaking, etiquette, and personal responsibility, and additional subjects as interests arise. The school will incorporate all ages with interaction, teaching, and learning happening across the age groups. Research and interpretation skills will be developed through self-study and presentation. Opportunities for area parents and leaders to share their skills and interests will also be part of the curriculum. The academy hopes also to serve as a central base for athletic opportunities, homeschool support, academic tutoring, internship and apprenticeship coordination, and mock trial. This is a drop-off, parents welcome anytime, opportunity!

Why
There is a need for more resources for homeschool families and families looking for alternative education solutions for their children that encourage confidence. The number of families that are homeschooling, using online education venues, and pursing private education has grown by over 60% because of multiple current societal concerns. This surge has created a need and opportunity for additional options for complementary education that is aptitude based and student driven. This hybrid model is different because it focuses on life preparation and contemporary issues not just college prep. It offers a curriculum that is more student interest driven than most traditional academic programs. It also focuses on current issues not typically covered by homeschool curriculum such as where your food comes from, sustainable agriculture and stewardship of creation, and making wise lifestyle choices.
